Jazz Plus is now a package of three concerts instead of four

The Wednesday Jazz Plus series has been restructured, now offered as a three-concert package instead of four. What was previously Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 (JZ1 and JZ2) is now Wednesday 1 and Wednesday 2 (WE1 and WE2), still promoted as featuring some of the most talented luminaries of jazz and beyond, under the guidance of Creative Chair for Jazz Herbie Hancock.

Some may wonder whether the popularity of the Wednesday series has softened, especially as additional dates appear to be allocated to more mainstream (and often more expensive) lease events.

In recent seasons, the programming has also felt less traditionally jazz-centric, incorporating more global and genre-blending artists — such as last year’s extraordinary Rhiannon Giddens performance, which explored the evolution of folk music. (The show was amazing.)

Regardless of genre, weekday concerts tend to carry a more relaxed, intimate energy with a genuine sense of community that makes them uniquely special.
