Our annual celebration of silky-smooth jazz returns with laidback Motown grooves and soulful sax stylings. Known for a long string of timeless hits like “Brick House,” “Three Times a Lady,” “Nightshift,” and “Easy,” The Commodores are one of the most successful and enduring R&B and funk bands of the 1970s and 1980s. And, far from resting on any easy-listening laurels, this powerhouse remains a must-see live act. Co-headliner Boney James’ saxophone prowess and seductive fusion of jazz, R&B, funk, and pop has reshaped modern contemporary jazz. A four-time Grammy nominee and Soul Train Award winner, James has sold over four million albums and continues to defy genres, records, and expectations. The trifecta is perfected by legendary multi-instrumentalist, singer, and bandleader (and Prince’s go-to drummer) Sheila E., who opens the night in style. Get ready for a supremely smooth evening.

Anja Bihlmaier leads an evening of remembrance and rapture with world-renowned violinist Bomsori. This special night under the stars begins with beyond the beyond by the late Sarah Gibson, a brilliant and beloved pianist, composer, and educator. Gibson was a member of the LA Phil family, serving as a lead teaching artist for the organization’s Composer Fellowship Program.

The Hollywood Bowl traces its origins to 1919, when the Theatre Arts Alliance purchased a 59-acre site in Bolton Canyon for $47,500. Originally known as “Daisy Dell,” the area was a shaded picnic spot prized for its natural amphitheater shape and strong acoustics. It was especially favored by the founders, including William and H. Ellis Reed, who recognized its potential as an outdoor performance venue. The Hollywood Bowl officially opened on July 11, 1922, beginning modestly with nothing more than a simple wooden platform and a canvas top.

The Hollywood Bowl operates as a public park, and you are welcome to visit during the day when no events are scheduled. The exterior park areas and parking lots are generally open to the public daily, typically from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, or until mid-afternoon on concert days. Admission is free, making it a wonderful place to take a walk, enjoy a picnic, or simply experience the setting without the evening crowds.

It is a surprisingly peaceful way to see the Bowl from a different perspective. You can explore the grounds, take photos of the iconic shell, or enjoy a quiet moment in one of Los Angeles’ most historic outdoor spaces.
