Getting There

There are plenty of good reasons to arrive at the Hollywood Bowl as early as possible. Traffic is lighter, parking is less stressful, and you have first pick of the best picnic spots if you are dining outside your seating area. Early arrival also gives you time to settle in without rushing, which immediately sets a more relaxed tone for the evening.

Early Arrival

My favorite reason is simple. There is something special about setting up dinner, pouring a glass of wine, and watching the sun dip behind the hills. As the light softens and the sky shifts, the Bowl begins to glow. The energy builds slowly. You feel part of the evening, not just someone arriving for a show.

Sipping wine and people watching as the venue fills is half the fun. You will see families, date nights, longtime subscribers, and first-timers all creating their own version of the perfect summer night. That quiet pre-concert window, when anticipation hangs in the air and the stage lights start to shine, makes arriving early well worth it.

As a rule of thumb, gates open two hours before the performance. There are occasional exceptions. In recent years, the Hollywood Bowl has started listing gate times directly on each show’s detail page under the calendar section, making it easy to confirm before you go.

Hollywood Bowl Gate Times

Typical Gate Open Times

  • 6:00pm for 8:00 concerts on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
  • 6:00pm for 8:30 concerts on Friday and Saturday
  • 4:30pm for 7:00 concerts on Sunday
  • 5:00pm for 7:30 concerts on Sunday

Parking

Parking at the Hollywood Bowl is limited, and much of it is stacked, which means you may be waiting for other cars to move before you can exit after the concert. With the exception of Accessible parking, Lot B is now limited to allow space for a Park and Ride and Bowl Shuttle hub. It is worth noting that more than a third of concertgoers use the transportation system, and for good reason. The Park and Ride and Bowl Shuttle options are often the least stressful way to arrive and depart.

Lot C is now the designated Rideshare hub, and parking is no longer available for purchase in that lot. I have taken an Uber to the Hollywood Bowl, and it can be a bit of an adventure, especially if you are carrying picnic supplies. From the drop-off area, you walk to the pedestrian tunnel, head down under the street, come back up on the other side, and then continue up the hill to the gates. It is manageable, but it is not exactly curbside service.

If you decide to drive, all parking is now available through ParkWhiz. Purchasing in advance is strongly recommended, as many lots sell out. Planning ahead, whether you choose stacked parking, shuttle service, or rideshare, will make your evening far smoother and allow you to focus on what you came for: a great night under the stars.

Parking Prices

  • Lot A (Blue): $90 for valet, $55 for stacked parking
  • Lot B (Green): Park & Ride and Bowl Shuttle Hub, $55 for  only
  • Lot C (Purple): Rideshare Hub (no parking available)
  • Lot D (Yellow): $45 for LA Phil presented events and $55 for Lease Events.
  • Motorcycles (Lots B & D): $10

Tip: If you are planning a special night and want to make the experience as seamless as possible, consider calling the Hollywood Bowl Box Office to ask about Gold or Platinum Valet Parking passes for your performance. Occasionally, subscribers return these passes for shows they are unable to attend, and you may be able to secure one even if they are not widely advertised online. It never hurts to ask.

You can also check reputable secondary ticket marketplaces such as StubHub, where valet passes sometimes appear closer to show dates. While they typically come at a premium, the convenience can be worth it. Valet parking eliminates stacked parking delays and reduces the uphill walk, making arrival and departure far more relaxed.

For anniversary nights, milestone birthdays, or when you are hosting out-of-town guests, valet can transform the evening from great to effortless. It is one of those small upgrades that feels especially luxurious at the end of a long concert when most people are waiting in parking lines.
